Mediation - What Is It?

In mediation, we help you create positive solutions during a stressful or difficult time in your life.

Mediation is a process by which a neutral third-party helps participants to resolve their dispute in a collaborative, mutually cooperative manner. The mediator sponsors a conversation between the participants by creating an environment in which they feel comfortable discussing their views of the dispute, and helps them identify the underlying issues in the dispute and possible options as to how those issues might be resolved. The hallmark of mediation is cooperation, not conflict, and the agreement reached by the participants themselves is mutually beneficial and voluntary.

Perhaps, you are preparing to enter marriage; preparing to enter, or have entered, a marriage that will "blend" the parents and children of different families; separating within a marriage (with or without plans for divorce); divorcing (with or without children); or reaching an age that presents certain special issues for you or where ordinary issues of life offer special challenges (or are a family loved one of such a person).

Perhaps you are a party in a buyer/seller or broker/client real estate transaction that has hit a bump in the road. Or perhaps you are one of the millions of people in this country every year who find themselves involved in a myriad of civil disputes with a neighbor, a merchant, a supplier, a customer, a home-improvement contractor, etc.

If so, a confidential session, with a trained and neutral mediator to guide the process, can help the participants define the dispute and explore possible options in an effort to reach a mutually agreeable solution.
